Certificate in ECDE (Montessori)

Introduction

The Certificate in ECDE (Montessori) is an entry-level pathway for those beginning a career in early childhood education using the Montessori approach. Trainees learn to prepare a child-centred learning environment and to guide young learners through Montessori materials across practical life, sensorial, language, and numeracy areas. The programme blends the internationally recognised Montessori philosophy with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and includes supervised teaching practice.

Objectives

• Introduce the Montessori philosophy, principles, and the prepared environment.
• Build skills to present Montessori materials in practical life, sensorial, language and mathematics.
• Develop understanding of child growth, development, health and nutrition.
• Prepare trainees for supervised practice in ECDE and Montessori settings.

Units

Minimum Qualifications

• KCSE mean grade of D+ (Plus) and above; or
• A KCPE pass with relevant teaching or caregiving experience.
